Bitten by the crocheting bug - book review

This is my latest find, a gift for myself *grin*
I usually check out knitting and crocheting books from the local library, but this baby is an exception. It is truly a keeper *hugs*

The book is 160 pages thick, divided to six sections which are doilies, motif, edgings and braids.
The paper quality is superior and the pictures are beautifully captured.

The layout of the book is simple and easy to follow even for a non-Japanese reader.
The pattern follows immediately after the illustrations. This saves a lot of confusion in searching for the right pattern.

I am yet to try a pattern, but from the look of it, it seems achievable even for a beginner like me.

I love the fun and modern designs included in the book together with the more conventional crocheting patterns.

The book is printed in Japan

Bitten by the crocheting bug

I started crocheting again (not that I'm good at it or anything) but it seems like the logical thing to do on cold and chilly days in December. It keeps your mind active in a stationary position.

I picked up crocheting using the books you see in the picture.
I wrote a review on one of the books here.

I attempted something bigger than my usual mini flower motif this time (as in the picture above). It turned out quite all right for a beginner like me (I think) but I still can't seem to get the tension right *sigh*

I use my completed projects (the better ones) to embellish bags and pouches

On a totally different note, here are a couple of pictures of us here in Kyoto.

December will soon end, have you started reevaluating your year and making plans for the year to come..?? Pin It

Crochet anyone?

I have been bitten by the crochetting bug lately (not that I'm any good at it). Recently visiting the local library with my girl, I checked out a Crochet book.
Title: First Crochet Lesson
ISBN: 978-4-8163-4486-2
Published: 2008
Price: 1200yen/ RM48

As with almost all of Japanese craft books that I've come across, this book is totally self explanatory and suitable for independent learner, any individual could manage learning the crochetting steps from the detailed step by step pictured instructions.
The book contains projects like flower and snow shaped coasters, mini flower motifs, edging laces and braid laces, flower corsages, square multi covers, mini mufflers, portable phone cases and tote bags. I have attempted the mini flower motifs and hope to try bigger projects in the future.
The reason I kept my wonky and crooked crochetting attempts till the end is mainly because if you've had seen these pics first, you might have stopped reading and blog hopped to something better.. *sigh*
