Fabric Scrap series - Tape

I hardly use store bought bias tape for binding. I make my own out of the scrap fabrics in my collection.

The width of the tape depends on your need, you could cut it to specific sizes or like me just find the ones with similar sizes and lay them out. As you can see below, I have been working with blue(s) lately (more here). Rearrange the line up until you are somewhat happy with what you have.
Sew the pieces together
Next, open the seam and press (iron). You could straightaway fold them like bias tape or..
.. just fold them neatly to be used for many different purposes later like as tie backs, handles, binding, borders, patchwork.. anything actually..
I used the blue tape as binding for my baby quilt truck
What do you do with your scrap fabrics..?

brilliant idea... saya ada gak simpan scraps yang comel2 nih.. tapi agak risau la..sbb warna yang sangat pelbagai, nanti tak nampak pelik ke kalo kita buat binding? tq...

Thanks ladies for all your kind words..

to answer meo1my's question - mencantum perca kecik-2 takes time and patience.. if x leh buat sekali harung, buat sket-2 i.e 5-10 mins sekali buat, then buat keje lain..nnt sambung balik.. give it a try..

mamadaniel - rasanyer kena sort ikut colour jugak perca tu..being said that, it doesnt mean biru tu x leh campur lansung ngan shades lain.. try to put them side by side and see if bley masuk.. some contrasting shades go well together.. it takes practice and trial and error i guess.. give it a try, you might be surprised with the outcome..

please show us tutorial on how you do the sewing. It seems hard for me.

Jess - Sorry I didn't have a pic for that step, but it's pretty much straightforward, with right side facing, sew a straight line joinning the small pieces together on one side of the square only, continue until you have one long strip. Then turn, and press the seam open, this to avoid bulk later when attaching the tape as binding..

let me know if it's still unclear..
